Karijini National Park is the second largest National Park in Western Australia. At around 6274 sqkm it is about two and a half times bigger than Luxemburg. It is part of one of the oldest geological regions of the world, containing rocks more than 2.5 billion years old.

The Hamersley Ranges, which make up the park are 400 km long and up to 64 km wide. They include Mount Meharry and Mount Bruce, Western Australia’s tallest mountains, up to 1253 m. There are eight main gorges, up to 100 m deep. Here you will see the oldest exposed rocks in the world. These banded rocks are rich in iron and other precious stones like Tigereye.

Between April and November are the best months to visit with reliable, beautiful weather. Temperatures range from nighttime minimums of 15 degrees down to below zero and daytime maximums of twenty to thirty degrees plus, through the winter month of June, July and August. April, May, October and November can get a little hotter with 40 plus degrees during the days and 25 degrees at night.

Through the summer months of December to March it can be extremely hot, sometimes exceeding 50 degrees and this time of the year also brings tropical thunderstorms, flash floods and the occasional cyclone. With its spectacular gorges, amazing rock patterns, colors and gorgeous swimming holes it is Australia’s best kept secret.
